Fredrikinkatu

Construction period: 4/2027-7/2029

A new tram section will be constructed on Fredrikinkatu between Bulevardi and Urho Kekkosen katu. The construction will proceed in phases by city block sections. In the first phase, the works will take place between Bulevardi and Lönnrotinkatu, as well as between Kalevankatu and Eerikinkatu, from May to August 2027. In the second phase, construction will continue on the sections between Eerikinkatu and Kansakoulukatu, and between Lönnrotinkatu and Kalevankatu, from September 2027 to May 2028. In the third phase, the works will be carried out between Kansakoulukatu and Urho Kekkosen katu from March to October 2028. The works in the Bulevardi intersection area will be carried out from April to July 2029.

The construction will be carried out one block section at a time, with the work area covering the entire street section at each stage. During these stages, the street will be closed to through traffic at the work area, but access to property entrances and courtyards will be maintained.

A new tram stop will be constructed and the tracks will be renewed at the intersection of Bulevardi and Fredrikinkatu. Two stops will be located on the new tram section on Fredrikinkatu. In addition, the existing curbside stops on Bulevardi will be relocated closer to the Fredrikinkatu intersection. The street’s municipal infrastructure, such as water and sewer pipes, will also be renewed.

Kirurgi

Construction period: September 2027–end of 2028

Construction will begin in September 2027 in the intersection area of Bulevardi and Mannerheimintie. During the first phase, the switches on Mannerheimintie will be relocated. The changes will enable two long trams to pass each other and create the conditions for operating tram line 14.

In addition, stop modification works will be carried out between June 2028 and September 2028. Two stops on Yrjönkatu will be extended. Changes to pedestrian crossing arrangements and renewal of road markings will also be carried out. The works will mainly be minor and will not cause significant traffic arrangements.

Tehtaankatu, Perämiehenkatu ja Pursimiehenkatu

Construction period: 6/2028-9/2029

The works on Tehtaankatu are planned to be carried out from April to October 2029. A new tram departure platform for waiting trams will be built on Tehtaankatu, along with a passing track on the southern side of the street. At the same time, the water supply and district heating networks, as well as tram switches and tracks, will be renewed on the section between Sepänkatu and Telakkakatu. The street structures will be extensively renewed underground, after which track superstructure works and street surface construction will be carried out.

On Perämiehenkatu, the district heating network and the track structures of the curves will be renewed, while water infrastructure works will be carried out on Pursimiehenkatu. The works on these two streets are planned to be carried out from April to October 2028.

Fredrikinkatu Bridge

Construction period: spring 2027- 6/2028

The bridge crossing the Fredrikinkatu cycling route will be renewed, as its service life is coming to an end. The old bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge, which will also include new tram tracks. Fredrikinkatu will be closed at the bridge location during the works, and temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented in the area.
